Portfolio Accountant – Johannesburg & Cape Town

About the role

We are looking for a recently qualified accountant to join our Accounting Services team as a Portfolio Accountant. Working under an experienced Portfolio Manager, you will support a diverse client portfolio across Johannesburg and Cape Town, handling bookkeeping, financial reporting, tax compliance and payroll.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day accounting and bookkeeping for multiple clients, including ledger maintenance and monthly transaction processing.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, supporting schedules and perform bank, creditor, debtor and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Compile annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and IFRS for SMEs, and assemble working papers for review.
• Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL, provisional tax and income‑tax returns for companies, trusts and individuals.
• Process monthly payroll, generate payslips, statutory payroll reports and EMP201 declarations.
• Build and maintain client relationships, respond to enquiries and escalate complex issues to the Portfolio Manager.
• Maintain digital working papers and manage multiple client deadlines simultaneously.

Required profile

• Recently completed SAICA, SAIPA or ACCA articles.
• Detail‑oriented, motivated and able to work under tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and a customer‑service mindset.
