Library Assistant & TLB/Grader Operator – Municipal Services

About the role

Mkhambathini Municipality is seeking qualified candidates for two permanent positions within its Community Services and Technical, Planning & Development departments: a Library Assistant to support library operations and a TLB/Grader Operator to manage heavy‑construction equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist library users with registrations, issue membership cards, manage circulation, and maintain accurate records in the computer database.
• Update and retrieve user details, send overdue notifications, and organise library materials alphabetically and numerically.
• Operate a TLB for excavation, trenching, loading and back‑filling, and operate a grader to construct and maintain gravel roads.
• Inspect safety devices, conduct routine maintenance on machinery, and report any defects to the supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 (Library Assistant) or Grade 10 (TLB/Grader Operator) with relevant certifications.
• Valid driver’s licence (Code 8 for Library Assistant; Code C1/10 for TLB/Grader Operator).
• 1‑2 years of library experience or 2‑3 years operating TLB and grader equipment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Computer literacy for database management.
• Ability to operate TLB and grader machinery safely.
