General Relief Cashier (Hourly) – Beaufort West

About the role

The municipality is seeking a General Relief Cashier to provide continuous cash handling services in Beaufort West. This hourly position covers after‑hours, weekends and periods of leave to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Act as relief cashier whenever the regular cashier is unavailable.
• Receive payments, issue receipts and record cash in the deposit book.
• Safeguard cash, receipts and related documents in line with control procedures.
• Handle general enquiries and report public complaints.
• Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by the Controller, including post‑hour cash verification with a supervisor before banking.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with Accounting and Mathematics (or Maths Literacy).
• Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong numeracy and accuracy.
• Ability to work under pressure and good interpersonal skills.
