Director of Financial Services (Municipality)

About the role

The Municipality of Beaufort West seeks a senior leader to head its Financial Services Department. The Director will shape financial strategy, ensure compliance with legislation, and drive sound fiscal management across the municipality.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies that improve the municipality’s financial performance.
• Oversee revenue and expenditure functions, ensuring accurate execution of municipal financial duties.
• Maintain accountability for all revenue, assets, liabilities and enforce budgetary controls.
• Prepare financial statements, apply budgetary control measures and uphold municipal accounting standards.
• Lead performance management, supervise IDP implementation and manage supply‑chain, ratings, tariffs and equitable share monitoring.
• Ensure statutory duties are performed and delegated authority is exercised in line with relevant legislation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics (NQF Level 7) with at least 360 credits.
• Registration or eligibility with a relevant professional body and knowledge of local government finance.
• Minimum five years’ experience at middle‑management level in a financial setting.
• Strong computer literacy and effective communication skills in at least two official Western Cape languages.
• Strategic thinking, positive attitude and a valid Code B driver’s licence.
