Director of Financial Services (Municipal)

About the role

The Municipality of Beaufort West is seeking a qualified individual to fill the permanent, performance‑based position of Director: Financial Services. This senior role leads the Financial Services Department and drives financial performance across the municipality.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Financial Services Department and oversee all revenue, expenditure, assets and liabilities.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve the municipality’s financial performance and ensure compliance with legislation.
• Prepare financial statements, apply budgetary controls and enforce municipal accounting practices.
• Supervise the performance management system and the implementation of IDP elements within the department.
• Maintain a quality management system in line with relevant policies, standards and legislation.
• Oversee supply‑chain management, ratings & tariffs, equitable share and financial viability monitoring.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification (minimum 360 credits).
• Registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body.
• Minimum five years of middle‑management experience, preferably in local government finance.
• Effective communication skills in at least two official Western Cape languages.
• Strategic thinking, positive attitude and ability to work under performance‑based conditions.
• Valid Code B driver’s licence.
