Chief Clerk – Rates & Taxes

About the role

The Chief Clerk – Rates & Taxes coordinates and controls accounting procedures for property rates within the Beaufort West municipal area, ensuring accurate levying, billing and reconciliation of rates, sewerage and refuse charges.

Key responsibilities

• Administer levying of rates and taxes in line with legislation and provide billing services.
• Maintain and update the valuation roll, capture information and implement supplementary rolls.
• Raise interim debt assessment rates and process property rates journals.
• Manage levies for sewerage, refuse and rates, and maintain master files.
• Review and issue rates clearance certificates and administer rebate applications.
• Register transfer deeds and handle public enquiries, disputes, objections and appeals related to property rates.
• Reconcile valuation and tax data and supervise staff members.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification with Accounting.
• High computer literacy, especially MS Office and MS Excel.
• Knowledge of a municipal billing system.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience.
• Physically fit and able‑bodied to perform duties.

• Salary range T8: R19,145.57 – R298,218.49 per annum.
