Audit and Performance Audit Committee Member

About the role

The municipality is seeking one qualified individual to serve on its Audit and Performance Audit Committee for the period 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2029. The role involves providing independent advice on financial control, risk management and performance matters to the municipal council and senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on internal and external audit functions, risk management, accounting policy and the reliability of financial reporting.
• Review annual financial statements and provide an authoritative opinion on the municipality’s financial position, efficiency and compliance with relevant legislation.
• Give feedback to the council on issues raised by the Auditor‑General and conduct investigations on financial matters as requested.
• Monitor performance management, effective management practices and adherence to the Municipal Finance Management Act and related statutes.
• Perform any other functions prescribed for the committee.

Required profile

• General understanding of internal and external audit functions, policies and procedures.
• Experience in the corporate or public sector at senior management level, with knowledge of corporate governance, accounting and performance management.
• Knowledge of law, business and human‑resource principles to identify significant management deviations.
• Commitment to place the municipality’s interests first at all times.
• Membership of a recognised professional body is recommended; applicant must reside within the Beaufort West municipality and have no criminal record.

What we offer

• Compensation per meeting, with the committee meeting four times a year.
• Fixed three‑year term of service.
• No remuneration for training or workshop attendance.
