Pharmacist – Retail Pharmacy (South Africa)

About the role

Our client is looking for a qualified and registered Pharmacist to join a busy retail pharmacy team in South Africa. The successful candidate will ensure safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of medication while providing expert clinical advice to patients.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense prescription and over‑the‑counter medication in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
• Provide patient counselling on medication use, dosage, and potential interactions.
• Conduct screening services such as blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol testing where applicable.
• Manage stock control, including ordering, receiving, and inventory management.
• Maintain compliance with SAPC regulations, Good Pharmacy Practice, and health‑and‑safety standards.
• Liaise with medical practitioners, medical aid schemes, and other healthcare professionals.
• Supervise and support pharmacy assistants and other staff.
• Handle medical aid claims, authorisations, and related administrative processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) in good standing.
• Minimum of 5 years post‑registration experience in a private retail pharmacy.
• Strong knowledge of South African pharmaceutical legislation and Good Pharmacy Practice standards.
• Valid driver’s licence and own transport are advantageous.
• South African citizenship or a valid work permit.

Required skills

• Proficiency with pharmacy dispensing software.
• Experience using point‑of‑sale systems.
