Infection Prevention Control Specialist (Re-Advertised)

About the role

The Infection Prevention Control specialist will plan, develop and implement an infection control programme for Shifa Private Hospital, aligning with international best practice and local standards. The role involves supporting staff in preventing and managing infection risks across the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Assist hospital employees in preventing, identifying and controlling infection issues for patients and staff.
• Plan, develop and implement an infection control programme in line with updated standards.
• Notify the Department of Health of reportable diseases in a timely manner.
• Organise regular infection control committee meetings and document proceedings.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date infection control file accessible to nursing and housekeeping staff.
• Conduct IPC meetings, audits, risk assessments and address critical non‑conformances.
• Perform daily ward rounds, teach and up‑skill staff, and follow up on quality improvement initiatives.
• Complete all required monthly reports.

Required profile

• Relevant nursing qualification in Infection Control (1‑year diploma) or a 6‑month Infection Control certificate.
• 3–5 years of hospital experience in an infection control role.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse.
• Compliance with SANC code and applicable health care legislation.
• Compulsory BLS certification.
