General Relief Cashier

About the role

The municipality seeks a reliable General Relief Cashier to ensure continuous cash handling services when the regular cashier is unavailable. This position supports the Financial Services department and contributes to efficient service delivery for the community.

Key responsibilities

• Receive payments, issue receipts and record cash received in the deposit book.
• Safeguard cash, receipts and related documents in line with control procedures.
• Manage general enquiries and report public complaints.
• Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by the Controller: Income.
• After‑hours cashiers must verify takings with a supervisor the following morning before banking.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification with Accounting and Maths or Maths Literacy.
• Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong numeracy skills and ability to work accurately under pressure.
• Good interpersonal skills for dealing with the public.

• Hourly tariff of R69.55 per hour (contract staff rate).
