Chief Financial Officer (Re‑advert) – Ba‑Phalaborwa Municipality

About the role

The Ba‑Phalaborwa Municipality is seeking senior professionals for two key positions: a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on a five‑year fixed‑term contract and a Chief Electrical Engineer on a contractual basis. Both roles are based at the municipality’s main office in Phalaborwa and require security clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the municipal finance function, ensuring compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act, MFMP, and GRAP standards (CFO).
• Provide strategic financial leadership, manage budgeting, treasury and financial reporting (CFO).
• Lead the Electrical Department, overseeing project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation (Chief Electrical Engineer).
• Manage departmental budgets, resources and stakeholder relationships (Chief Electrical Engineer).

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate plus a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Electrical Engineering; honours degree or NQF level 7 with at least three credit days for the CFO role.
• Minimum five years of middle‑management experience in municipal finance or electrical engineering respectively.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to undergo security vetting.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer for the electrical role.

What we offer

• Remuneration package for CFO ranging from R834 447 to R1 162 362 per annum (fixed‑term contract).
• Negotiable salary for Chief Electrical Engineer.
