Audit Committee Member – Municipal Governance

About the role

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality is appointing qualified professionals to serve as Audit Committee Members, Chairperson of the Risk Management Committee and Chairperson of the ICT Steering Committee. These independent advisory positions support effective governance, financial oversight, risk management and ICT governance for the municipality.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the council, accounting officer and senior management on internal financial controls, risk management, accounting policies, financial reporting, performance management and overall governance.
• Review annual financial statements, respond to Auditor‑General findings and conduct investigations into municipal financial affairs as requested.
• Monitor and guide the implementation of the Risk Management Framework, set risk appetite, and ensure compliance with public‑sector risk legislation.
• Provide oversight and advice on ICT governance, security, policies, incident management and project implementation, including approval of ICT project plans.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, Risk Management, IT, Legal or Performance Management.
• Minimum 8 years senior‑level experience in internal audit, risk, accounting, legal, IT or performance management.
• At least 6 years serving on an audit or risk committee.
• Professional qualification such as MBA, CA, CIA, CISA or equivalent.
• Eligibility for security clearance.
