Audit Committee Member (2025‑2028) – Municipal Governance

About the role

The Municipality of Beaufort West invites nominations for a single member to serve on its Audit Committee for the period 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2028. The role is an independent advisory position that supports the Council, political office‑bearers, the Accounting Officer and senior management in overseeing municipal financial governance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent advice on internal financial control, external audits, risk management, accounting policy and the reliability of financial reporting.
• Review annual financial statements and deliver an authoritative opinion on the municipality’s financial position, efficiency, effectiveness and compliance with relevant legislation.
• Give feedback to the Council on issues raised by the Auditor‑General and conduct investigations into financial matters as requested.
• Undertake any other functions prescribed for the Audit Committee, including performance evaluation and governance oversight.

Required profile

• General understanding of internal and external audit functions, policies and procedures.
• Previous experience in the corporate or public sector at senior management level, with knowledge of law, business, accounting, corporate governance, human resources and performance management.
• Strong grasp of management principles and ethics, able to identify significant deviations from sound governance practices.
• Must reside within the Beaufort West municipality, have no criminal record and prioritize the municipality’s interests at all times.
