About the role

The Tshemba Foundation is seeking qualified South African doctors to volunteer in rural hospitals and clinics across Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces. This is a unique opportunity to provide essential healthcare services, share expertise with local staff, and experience medical cases rarely seen in urban settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct or indirect patient care in various hospital departments and surrounding clinics.
• Offer postgraduate support and training to local medical staff.
• Develop and deliver skill‑development sessions or formal teaching.
• Assist with administrative, management, clinical, and quality‑improvement projects.
• Collaborate with local teams to design health interventions and clinical protocols.

Required profile

• Current medical license in good standing.
• Registration with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
• Registered medical professional; highest need for GPs/family physicians with diabetes expertise, neurologists, dermatologists, hospitalists, ophthalmologists, paediatricians, general surgeons, as well as allied professionals such as optometrists, speech therapists, and dieticians.
• Willingness to commit to a flexible placement length based on expertise and impact.
