Special Workman: Electrical (Velddrif)

About the role

Bergrivier Municipality, based in Piketberg about 90 minutes from Cape Town, is re-advertising a Special Workman: Electrical (Velddrif) vacancy under Technical Services. The post supports the immediate supervisor with electrical installation, maintenance and repair work, and covers medium and low voltage electrical networks. Internal and external applications are considered.

Key responsibilities

• Perform specific electrical activities supporting the supervisor on major and minor installation, maintenance and repair works
• Inspect and report on the condition of the electrical reticulation system and its support structures
• Carry out activities related to the construction and installation of medium and low voltage electrical networks
• Maintain the functionality of medium and low voltage electrical reticulation and lightning systems
• Coordinate and control personnel performance, productivity and discipline on site
• Ensure health and safety compliance with statutory regulations and minimise accidents and injuries
• Take part in the municipality's performance management and development system

Required profile

• Studying towards a trade certificate
• One year of electrical experience
• Code C1 driving licence, preferably with PrDP
• Proficiency in at least two of the Western Cape official languages (Afrikaans, English, Xhosa) read, write and speak
• High level of responsibility, attention to detail, good interpersonal and communication skills
• Physically fit and able-bodied, prepared to work in all weather conditions and in confined spaces
• Willingness to work outside normal hours during emergencies and planned overtime, and to work in other parts of the municipality when required
