General Worker – Corporate Services Department

About the role

The Harry Gwala District Municipality is recruiting a General Worker for its Corporate Services Department (reference WT O 5/5/4/2/6). The position sits at salary grade T3, with a stated annual range of R138 508.77 to R159 666.42 plus applicable benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Cut and trim lawns and edges with handheld machines such as brush cutters and lawnmowers, and use shears to clear overgrown shrubs.
• Follow the supervisor's instructions and prepare the work site, including placing road signage, loading and off-loading equipment and tools, cleaning treatment plants, and fastening slings and ropes during loading and off-loading.
• Excavate and backfill trenches to defined levels using hand tools such as spades and picks.
• Clean drainage systems (manholes, pipes, canals) by removing blockages, debris and alien vegetation with hand tools such as cleaning rods and spades.
• Prepare the required quantities of materials such as concrete and mortar and carry out mixing sequences.
• Clean equipment such as brush cutters and lawnmowers, replace nylon cutting lines and check or replenish fuel.

Required profile

• A minimum of Grade 9 (Standard 7).
• 6 to 12 months of experience in gardening services.
