Contracts Engineer

About the role

ACTOM (Pty) Ltd, a power conversion and electrical equipment company, is hiring a Contracts Engineer in its Protection & Control department. The role manages electrical engineering projects and contracts so that they are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality, and reports to the Manager of the Schemes Business Unit.

Key responsibilities

• Manage projects and contracts in line with customer requirements, ensuring they are completed on time, within cost and quality specifications.
• Maintain costs within budget while maximising margin through claims and cost-reduction opportunities.
• Liaise with suppliers, customers, engineers and the production team, and process orders efficiently.
• Ensure materials arrive on site in time for erection and commissioning, and keep records of non-compliances and corrective actions.
• Meet contractual obligations, document commitments, review and approve orders, and prepare detailed project programmes including testing and inspection.
• Issue work instructions to sub-contractors, monitor their performance and quality, and coordinate deliveries through the Purchasing Department.
• Control revenue and cost: invoice in time, raise claims for extras and rate-of-exchange adjustments, and justify cost changes.
• Submit prices to clients, compile price schedules for variation orders and give general pricing quotes.

Required profile

• B-Tech/B.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
• Registered as a Professional Technologist/Engineer with ECSA (advantageous).
• Registered with PMP or SACPCMP (advantageous).
• Minimum 3 years of project management experience in electrical engineering projects.
• Previous experience in electrical protection and control and substation automation.
• Experience with quality assurance in project management and exposure to commercial processes and NEC/FIDIC contracts.

• Microsoft Office Suite, including Project, Excel and PowerPoint.
• CPA calculations and SEIFSA indices.
