Solution Design Engineer - Warehouse Solutions

About the role

Maersk is looking for a Solution Design Engineer to join its team in South Africa. The role delivers warehouse solution design across the African region (South, East and West areas) for customer pursuits that need cost-effective, high-quality warehousing solutions that can be implemented and executed.

Key responsibilities

• Own solution design, costing and pricing in the African region, and lead when needed
• Capture core data and assumptions needed to design, cost and price the solution, including a process for capturing customer insights and future upselling opportunities
• Develop detailed designs covering scope of services, operating model, resource models, operating cost estimates, recommended selling price, estimated client value and draft P&L for Maersk
• Calculate warehouse size from throughput and product data, mainly from customer RFQs
• Create warehouse process flows for receiving, put-away, picking, packing and dispatch to maximise productivity
• Calculate activity productivity targets to support resource and activity-based costing models
• Build warehouse throughput simulation models using CLASS software
• Share knowledge and best practices, and give constructive feedback, within the Global Contract Logistics Solution Design Community

Required profile

• At least 4 years' experience designing fulfilment (B2B and B2C) solutions
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in industrial engineering, operations or logistics
• Experience designing solutions for retail, lifestyle, technology, FMCG and automotive verticals
• Experience in warehouse or logistics operations, including implementation or customer solution support, is beneficial
• Ability to make recommendations from limited or ambiguous data; fluent English spoken and written

Required skills

• Designing warehouse layouts and simulation models with CLASS and AutoCAD
• Deep understanding of how process changes affect productivity and financials
• Experience in cold storage and transportation is an advantage
