Senior Structures Engineer - Data Centre

About the role

AECOM is recruiting a Senior Engineer for Structures, Data Centre in Centurion. The role leads design work on small to medium projects, mentors junior and mid-level structures staff, coordinates with other disciplines and supports construction supervision. It also involves building client relationships and taking part in major bids and proposals.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver discipline involvement on projects, including design development, review, supervision, coordination and documentation, and guide junior engineers
• Lead a design team of junior and mid-level structures staff, providing daily mentorship and direction
• Ensure teams coordinate with other disciplines so there are no design gaps, including supporting construction supervision teams
• Coach less experienced staff on technical competence, systems and procedures
• Build and maintain client relationships and take part in preparing major bids and proposals on the technical side
• Technically lead project aspects, supporting Project Managers and technical teams to deliver within scope, budget and timeframe
• Interface with clients on schedules, meetings and issues, anticipate delays and propose alternatives
• Take responsibility for structural design and drawings, attend planning, design and site meetings and site inspections
• Carry out technical reviews and audits, follow HSE policies and promote compliance with engineering standards

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering (Structures), preferably M.Eng or MSc.Eng
• At least 8 years' experience after qualification
• Registered with ECSA as Pr.Eng. for at least 3 years
• Ability to build trusted client relationships, advise non-specialists and work under pressure with minimal supervision
• Ability to delegate and supervise others

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Revit, Tekla Structural Designer, ETABS, SAP2000, Robot and Idea Statica, and BIM tools such as Autodesk Revit
• Experience with American and/or European design codes is preferable
