Senior Design Manager

About the role

AECOM's Enterprise Capabilities team is looking for a Senior Design Manager to join its South Africa offices. The role covers full-day-to-day design management on more complex projects, on a range of smaller but more challenging projects, or on a component of a major project. It sits within Enterprise Capabilities, which provides technical expertise and accelerates delivery for regional and global project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver EC Africa projects, understanding their status, budget and risks
• Follow AECOM PM best practices and the AECOM PDS and EC GEPs
• Take full responsibility for the design management of projects and contribute to technical discussions
• Analyse projects commercially and advise Project Delivery Teams on commercial health, highlighting concerns early
• Prepare and assist with project reporting, including monthly status reports, and review and approve outputs from cost and schedule systems
• Review and approve design outputs, prepare presentations and cost proposals, and ensure quality procedures are followed
• Ensure design teams coordinate with each other and that additional scope changes are approved by clients
• Ensure quality reviews are conducted and that the right Lead Verifiers are assigned
• Work with the Lead Office Project Manager, design teams and other Africa EC Lead PMs/DMs

Required profile

• 8 to 11 years of experience
• Honours degree in a built environment field with at least 8 years of relevant post-graduate experience, or B-Tech with at least 9 years, or National Higher Diploma with at least 10 years, or National Diploma with at least 11 years
• Tertiary qualification in a project management-related field (procurement, quantity surveying, engineering, architecture, planning, contracting, etc.) with at least 9 years of relevant post-graduate experience
• Registration as PrEng with ECSA, or PrArch with SACAP, or PrCPM with SACPCMP, or certification as PMP/PgMP/PfMP/PMI-SP/PMI-ACP with PMI
