Senior Designer – Structures (Materials Handling Projects)

About the role

AECOM is looking for a Senior Designer to lead structural design for materials‑handling projects in the mining and industrial sectors. Based in Centurion, the role supports both local South African teams and global project teams, offering a flexible hybrid work arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and check structural design drawings, calculations and documentation for conveyors, transfer towers, crushing stations and related structures.
• Develop detailed 3D structural models using AutoCAD, Advanced Steel, Revit (concrete) and Navisworks.
• Lead design from concept through detailed design and construction support, coordinating with civil, mechanical and process engineers.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and project specifications.
• Mentor junior and intermediate designers and manage deliverable registers, revision control and quality assurance.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of structural design experience, preferably on materials‑handling or heavy‑industrial projects.
• Degree or diploma in Structural or Civil Engineering; registration with ECSA or equivalent is advantageous.
• Experience working in underground or surface mining environments is preferred.
• Proven ability to work independently and deliver high‑quality technical outputs.

Required skills

• AutoCAD – detailed structural drawing production.
• Advanced Steel – full structural detailing.
• Revit – concrete design applications.
• Navisworks – model integration and clash detection.
• Inventor – 3D solid modelling (advantageous).
• Plant 3D – piping and plant layout coordination (advantageous).
