Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant

About the role

Life Westville Hospital in Durban is looking for a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant who reports to the Senior Pharmacist. The role covers the professional supply of medication to patients, wards and theatre, as well as the procurement and handling of ethical and surgical stock.

Key responsibilities

• Process prescriptions for hospital and retail patients and process in-patient credits
• Dispense under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, as prescribed by the SAPC
• Issue ward stock to wards, theatre and clinics
• Replace medication in the emergency cupboard
• Carry out daily cycle counts and quarterly stock takes, investigate variances and maintain statistics
• Handle administrative tasks daily, order ethical stock and manage deadstock

Required profile

• Qualification as Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant and registration with the Pharmacy Council
• At least 2-3 years of hospital experience; retail experience is advantageous
• Knowledge of pharmacy legislation and the regulatory framework
• Availability for weekend and public holiday duties on a rotational basis, and weekday shifts from 7h30am to 7pm on a rotational basis

Required skills

• Computer proficiency: SAP, CKS/Unisolve, Excel and MS Office
• Attention to detail, strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure
• Good communication and relationship-building skills
