Ward Clerk - Cathlab and Cardiac Theatre

About the role

A vacancy has arisen for a Ward Clerk (Cathlab and Cardiac Theatre) reporting to the Theatre Unit Manager at Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital in Durban. The post provides comprehensive administrative support to the unit, with a strong focus on stock management and control, including stock accuracy, availability, replenishment and accountability, as well as patient billing and daily administrative coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure optimal service levels while striving to achieve targets.
• Monitor stock levels and maintain accurate inventory records.
• Manage consignment stock together with medical representatives.
• Ensure the speedy and effective execution of non-nursing activities.
• Accurately process patient billing and coordinate daily administrative work.
• Attend meetings and in-service training as scheduled.
• Maintain a safe environment by keeping up to date with safety standards and protocols, knowing emergency plans and actions.
• Reduce medico-legal risk by correctly identifying and filing patient documentation.
• Provide friendly, helpful customer service, uphold quality principles, keep professional secrecy and communicate effectively.

Required profile

• 2 to 3 years of strong hospital stock control experience.
• Matric qualification.
• Customer service experience.
• Competencies such as problem-solving, resilience, verbal and written communication, influencing, ethical behaviour and building relationships.

Required skills

• Excellent computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, Microsoft).
• Knowledge of hospital systems such as SAP and Impilo is an advantage.
