Manager: Trade Credit

About the role

Old Mutual is seeking a Manager: Trade Credit in Johannesburg. The role is central to managing the underwriting, profitability and strategic direction of the trade credit portfolio, balancing risk management with the pursuit of new business. It sits close to the Business Development Office, which refines pricing models and evaluates complex risks.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and price new business, analyse portfolio performance and develop action plans for underperforming segments
• Identify organic growth opportunities and research market factors to capture new business
• Streamline workflows so service levels are met while keeping underwriting standards high
• Visit clients and brokers with the sales team and resolve escalated service requests
• Mentor team members, identify training needs and ensure compliance with governance and legislative requirements
• Manage budgets, control costs and report on financial trends to hit profitability targets

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification in general insurance; preference for NQF Level 9 Master's degree
• 5 to 8 years in trade credit underwriting, including 2 to 3 years leading specialist underwriters
• 3 to 5 years of exposure to trade finance
• Servant-leader approach, able to build effective teams and balance stakeholder needs
