About the role

Liberty is seeking a seasoned professional to oversee its Card Acquiring product portfolio in Johannesburg, within the transaction banking division. The role owns the entire product lifecycle, from concept and development to deployment and ongoing optimisation, balancing strategic vision with the technical details of the payments ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Define the strategic roadmap for card acquiring solutions and manage the portfolio's financial performance, including revenue, costs and profitability.
• Lead end-to-end product development so features meet regulatory standards, fraud risk frameworks and customer needs.
• Work with engineering, IT and operations teams to turn business requirements into actionable user stories.
• Liaise with external payment schemes such as Visa and Mastercard and build partnerships with fintechs and payment aggregators.
• Act as subject matter expert internally and externally, keeping payment schemes and support departments aligned.
• Use market intelligence and analytics to monitor performance, client satisfaction and improvement opportunities.
• Own the portfolio's financial results and ensure budgeted targets are met.

Required profile

• Minimum 5-7 years in a banking environment, with 3-4 years in business management and technical oversight (API architecture, SDLC, system enhancements).
• Solid product management experience, ideally in transaction banking or payments, with a firm grasp of scheme relationships.
• Relevant first degree in Business or Commerce.
• Ability to interpret complex data, document facts and explain technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders.
