Maintenance Manager

About the role

Mount Nelson, a Belmond hotel in Cape Town, is looking for a Maintenance Manager. The role keeps the hotel's facilities and equipment in good condition so that guests receive a consistent luxury experience. It is a full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out ongoing preventive maintenance and upkeep of maintenance services
• Make sure all maintenance activities meet the agreed standards, efficiency and productivity levels
• Keep the hotel to health and safety standards in line with company audit standards
• Arrange routine maintenance in hotel rooms, lobbies and facilities
• Organise projects so they do not disturb guests, and oversee them on time, within budget and scope
• Set deadlines, assign responsibilities and track project progress
• Resolve emergency issues quickly
• Reduce operating costs and conserve energy
• Manage relationships with contractors and service providers
• Maintain budgets, expenses and activity logs, and check completed repairs against standards
• Work with the Executive Housekeeper, Front of House Manager and other heads of department on room and repair maintenance
• Develop, update and implement the department's standard operating procedure manuals

Required profile

• Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a similar position
• Strong leadership skills and ability to coach staff
• Willingness to work shifts, public holidays and Sundays when required

Required skills

• Knowledge of maintenance standards for a 5-star hotel and departmental financial management
• In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations
• Familiarity with plumbing, electrical, sewer and HVAC systems; hotel industry experience is a plus
