General Assistant – Mining Blasting Support

About the role

The General Assistant supports the truck operator in a mining environment by handling product collection from silos, delivering to the blasting face, and maintaining the work area. The role ensures all activities comply with statutory, legal, client and BME standards without shortcuts.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the MMU with charging and filling blast holes.
• Collaborate with the blaster to prepare the charge‑up area, conduct risk assessments and safe work declarations.
• Erect prescribed barricades and map blast holes to ensure correct placement.
• Measure and verify hole depth, reporting any deviations to mine staff or foreman.
• Collect and install detonators and boosters, then prime holes under blaster supervision.
• Perform housekeeping and routine maintenance of the vehicle and work zones.
• Complete any additional ad‑hoc duties within the required timeframe.

Required profile

• Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics.
• Preferable Code B or EC licence.
• Competent A & Blasting assistant certificate (MQA) is advantageous.
• At least 1 year of experience in a blasting or mining environment.
