Senior Associate Director - Resources + Industry

About the role

Senior Associate Director – Resources + Industry will lead AECOM’s Enterprise Capabilities engineering and design team in South Africa, supporting the Australia and New Zealand resources and industry business. The role bridges ANZ pursuit and project teams with global delivery teams, focusing on underground copper and gold hard‑rock mining and related materials‑handling infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Grow and manage a multidisciplinary team of 30+ engineers and designers across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and project controls.
• Develop EC South Africa as a mining and materials‑handling design centre, establishing technical standards and depth of discipline.
• Drive commercial performance through utilisation, resource planning and delivery metrics.
• Support recruitment, workforce planning, capability development and succession planning.
• Coordinate EC contributions to pursuits, maintain oversight of technical quality, risk and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Act as relationship manager across international teams, cultures and time zones.

Required profile

• 12+ years of engineering consultancy or EPCM experience in mining, energy or industrial sectors.
• At least 8 years of formal people‑leadership, design‑management or project‑delivery accountability.
• Professional Engineer registration with a recognised body.
• Proven ability to lead multicultural, geographically dispersed teams and influence senior stakeholders.
• Commercially astute with a track record of balancing growth, utilisation, quality and cost.

Required skills

• Underground hard‑rock mining design.
• Materials‑handling systems (crushing, conveying, transfer stations, ore handling).
• Multidisciplinary engineering coordination (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, project controls).
