About the role
The Function Manager leads the regional functional business for urban development, reporting to the Function General Manager. Based in Durban, the role oversees business planning, marketing, profitability, resource management, and project delivery across the region.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement business strategies aligned with SMEC’s national and company objectives.
- Drive marketing activities and nurture key client relationships with national and multi‑functional impact.
- Manage commercial and financial aspects of regional projects, including contract administration and budgeting.
- Oversee proposal development, submission of EOIs, and coordination of functional team inputs.
- Monitor staff utilisation, ensure optimal profitability, and mentor staff development.
- Allocate and supervise Project Managers, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to quality standards.
- Collaborate with internal SMEC contacts to share skills, support knowledge management, and cross‑sell other SMEC services.
- Provide monthly reporting on utilisation, profitability, forecasting, wellness, and project performance.
Required profile
- Proven experience in managing functional business units or regional operations.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in financial management and client liaison.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor staff.
- Excellent understanding of project execution, quality management systems, and HSE procedures.
