Construction OHS Officer – Head Office

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Construction OHS Officer to join our occupational health and safety team at the Head Office in Durban. The role ensures that all Boxer construction and development projects comply with OHS legislation, internal policies and industry best practice, while managing contractor relationships and driving risk‑based safety performance.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and audit contractor management policies and procedures.
• Identify, evaluate and document construction risks across multiple projects, maintaining risk registers and project profiles.
• Conduct physical site inspections, review health and safety files and verify compliance with the OHS Act, Construction Regulations and relevant standards.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders (project managers, architects, facilities) and external parties (principal contractors, Department of Labour, insurers).
• Investigate incidents, recommend corrective actions and follow‑up on their implementation.
• Provide hands‑on training and mentoring to principal contractors on OHS practices.
• Promote teamwork and alignment with Boxer’s values.

Required profile

• National Certificate in Construction Safety (or a National Diploma/3‑year degree in Safety/Occupational Health and Safety).
• Up to 3 years of experience in construction, preferably with OHS and contractor management exposure.
• Professional registration with SACPCMP preferred.
• Strong knowledge of the OHS Act, Construction Regulations, SANS and insurance requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently within broad guidelines and strong attention to detail.
