Construction Health and Safety Manager (CHSM)

About the role

BCB Solutions is seeking an experienced Construction Health and Safety Manager (CHSM) to lead safety initiatives across its road construction and routine road maintenance projects in South Africa. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with OHS legislation, drive continuous improvement of safety systems, and support the delivery of high‑value infrastructure contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain Health and Safety Management Systems on all project sites.
• Audit safety files, conduct site inspections and facilitate client audits.
• Record, report and investigate accidents and incidents, applying corrective and preventative actions.
• Develop and approve safety files, and induct subcontractors.
• Ensure OHS compliance with the South African OHS Act and conduct emergency preparedness drills.
• Adapt OHS documents to client‑specific requirements.
• Identify risks, evaluate hazards and develop safe work procedures.
• Lead risk and hazard assessments and enforce mitigation measures.
• Deliver monthly site trainings, toolbox talks and attend committee meetings.
• Travel extensively to multiple sites as required.

Required profile

• National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or higher in Health and Safety.
• Experience on SANRAL road construction or routine road maintenance projects valued at R80 million+.
• Active registration as a Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO) with SACPMP.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Strong written communication and ability to work independently.
