Civil Engineer – Water Infrastructure Design (PMB & Nelspruit)

About the role

Our national client seeks two motivated Civil Engineers to join the design team, one based in Pietermaritzburg and the other in Nelspruit. The role focuses on planning, designing, analysing and documenting civil engineering projects, primarily water‑related infrastructure, while collaborating closely with project managers, technicians and clients across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Design water infrastructure such as river abstraction works, pipelines, dams, stormwater, water‑supply and sewer networks.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports and detailed design documentation.
• Develop civil engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D; knowledge of Civil Designer and Revit is advantageous.
• Perform hydraulic design calculations and design earthworks, drainage systems and utility services.
• Prepare tender documentation, bills of quantities and technical specifications.
• Coordinate project planning, programme management and multidisciplinary team activities.
• Attend client meetings, liaise with authorities, monitor budgets and schedules.
• Conduct occasional site inspections, respond to contractor queries and support contract administration.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering from a recognised university.
• Approximately four years or more of relevant post‑graduate experience.
• Registered Candidate Engineer with ECSA or eligible for registration; progression toward Professional Engineer registration is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D.
• Experience with Civil Designer (advantageous).
• Familiarity with Revit (advantageous).
• Ability to perform hydraulic design calculations.
