Wage Controller

About the role

The Wage Controller is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of monthly payrolls, overseeing wage clerks, and maintaining compliance with statutory deductions. This role supports the Payroll Accountant and contributes to continuous improvement of payroll operations.

Key responsibilities

• Compile monthly wage payrolls accurately and on schedule.
• Manage Wage Clerks to ensure effective payroll completion.
• Process payments to third parties and handle garnishees.
• Resolve all wage‑related queries from employees and management.
• Administer general wage functions, including leave, bonus provisions, and salary increases.
• Ensure statutory deductions and engagements are applied correctly.
• Assist the Payroll Accountant with all payroll‑related tasks.
• Maintain the wage payroll system and generate month‑end reports and journals.
• Oversee workplace improvement initiatives and adhere to Astral’s ethics policy.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by management.

Required profile

• Matric or relevant qualification.
• Minimum five years of payroll experience.
• Strong administration, record‑keeping, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, and handle overtime when needed.
• Understanding of the 20 Keys concept.
• High level of confidentiality, attention to detail, and commitment to service excellence.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Required skills

• Experience with Integrity Payroll software.
• Familiarity with LN reporting system.
