Tax & Compliance Officer – Group Finance

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Tax & Compliance Officer to join the Group Finance team of a leading JSE‑listed organisation in Cape Town. The role offers ownership of a broad portfolio covering tax, statutory compliance, listed‑company requirements and debt compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit VAT201, ITR14 and IRP6 returns for multiple entities and perform monthly VAT, income tax and dividends tax reconciliations.
• Manage the Group’s tax compliance calendar, liaise with SARS on queries and audits, and coordinate with external tax advisers.
• Monitor REIT compliance, support JSE Listings Requirements, and coordinate share‑related documentation such as issuances, scrip dividends and buy‑backs.
• Oversee debt compliance, prepare covenant certificates, coordinate bond registrations and maintain lender‑related insurance and reporting.
• Submit CIPC annual returns, maintain statutory records, and assist with company registrations and public officer appointments.
• Draft dividend resolutions, calculate dividends tax, and maintain comprehensive statutory filing registers.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Taxation, Accounting, Finance or Commerce (CA(SA) required).
• Minimum three years’ experience in a tax or compliance‑focused role, preferably within a listed company, REIT or professional services environment.
• Strong knowledge of the Income Tax Act, VAT Act and Companies Act, and practical experience with SARS eFiling and CIPC e‑services.
• Familiarity with JSE Listings Requirements, REIT taxation (Section 25BB) and debt covenant monitoring is advantageous.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Hands‑on experience with SARS eFiling platform.
