Financial Controller – Operational Finance Leadership

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Financial Controller to own the day‑to‑day operational finance function for a fast‑growing health and wellness business. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will lead a small finance team, manage inventory accounting, and ensure accurate financial reporting across multiple entities and currencies.

Key responsibilities

• Own the month‑end close, ensuring accurate journal entries, accruals, and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Manage cash‑flow forecasting, working‑capital monitoring, and foreign‑currency bank reconciliations.
• Oversee inventory and cost accounting, including COGS, stock adjustments, write‑offs and returns.
• Prepare VAT filings and statutory submissions for South African and UK entities.
• Calculate and validate sales commissions against approved structures.
• Maintain Sage Intacct integrity, resolve system issues, and drive process automation.
• Lead, coach, and develop the finance team while staying hands‑on with detailed tasks.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 + years of financial controller or senior accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment with significant inventory.
• Proven track record of month‑end close, balance‑sheet control, and cash‑flow forecasting.
• Experience managing junior finance staff and coordinating with external auditors, tax advisers, and accountants.
• Strong commercial mindset with the ability to investigate anomalies and propose practical solutions.
