Specialty Registrar (ST4) – Anaesthetics – North Scotland

About the role

The North of Scotland Anaesthetic Training Programme is seeking four Specialty Registrar LAT posts (ST4 level) in Anaesthetics. Positions run from 5 August 2026 to 3 August 2027 and may be based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary or Raigmore Hospital, depending on training needs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver anaesthetic care across major surgical specialties, including maternity, paediatric, cardiothoracic and neurosurgery.
• Participate in the education of medical students and junior trainees.
• Rotate between Aberdeen and Inverness sites to meet programme requirements.
• Work towards stage 1 equivalence and progress through stage 2 or 3 training as appropriate.

Required profile

• Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC (must be in place before start date).
• Minimum six months of UK anaesthesia experience.
• Successful completion of the RCoA Initial Assessment of Competence (obstetric IA desirable).
• Eligibility according to the National Person Specifications for Anaesthetics and ACCS Anaesthetics CT1 and ST4 2026.

Required skills

• Clinical competence in anaesthesia across a range of surgical specialties.
• Knowledge of obstetric anaesthesia (desirable).
