Service Technician – Boiler Maintenance

About the role

The Service Technician will maintain, fault‑find, repair and optimise boiler plants and associated equipment for John Thompson. The role focuses on maximising plant availability, reliability, safety and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned maintenance and rapid response to breakdowns on industrial boiler plants.
• Diagnose faults using electrical drawings, P&IDs, wiring diagrams and control schematics.
• Collaborate with boiler operators, contractors and suppliers to minimise downtime.
• Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.

Required profile

• N3 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
• Recognised trade test in Electrical or Millwrighting.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Electrical, Instrumentation or Millwright Technician in an industrial setting.
• Valid, unendorsed driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, wiring diagrams and control schematics.
• Experience with Variable Speed Drives (VSDs/VFDs), PLC‑controlled equipment and industrial instrumentation.
• Proficiency in electrical and instrumentation fault‑finding and diagnostics.
• Knowledge of mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, actuators, fans, motors and burners.
• Competence with electrical test equipment, measuring devices, hand and power tools.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
