Industrial Technician Production – Clinical Engineering

About the role

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking an Industrial Technician Production specialised in Clinical Engineering. The role involves maintaining and repairing health technology equipment used in public hospitals across the Western Cape.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out clinical maintenance, repairs, routine inspection and evaluation of electronic, respiratory and anaesthetic equipment.
• Prepare reports, specifications and maintain accurate records of departmental activities.
• Engage with clients, train hospital staff and ensure high‑quality service delivery.
• Attend meetings and communicate effectively with hospital and private‑sector personnel.
• Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all relevant legal protocols.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering – Light current (T, N or S stream) or registration as an Engineering Technician under the Engineering Professions of South Africa Act.
• Proven experience in repair and maintenance of clinical or medical equipment.
• Valid Code B/EB driver’s licence, willingness to perform standby duties and work after‑hours.

Required skills

• Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams.
• Fault‑finding on electronic medical equipment.
• Compilation of technical specifications for health‑technology equipment.
• Planning and organising maintenance schedules.
• Strong technical problem‑solving capability.
