Service Technician

About the role

A vacancy exists in the Package Boiler Business Unit in Cape Town for a Service Technician reporting to the Service Manager. The role involves regular travel locally and abroad and may require work beyond normal hours.

Key responsibilities

• Plan layout and install electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures according to specifications and local codes.
• Install ground leads, connect power cables to motors and elements, and perform inspections, repairs and upgrades.
• Evaluate boiler room systems, generate sales leads and quotations, and ensure accurate documentation such as service reports and timesheets.
• Use power tools, measuring devices and testing equipment to install, repair or replace wiring, equipment and fixtures.
• Estimate material requirements, program VSD/VFD equipment, and conduct fault finding on drives and instrumentation.

Required profile

• N3 Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation, or a trade test in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or Millwright.
• At least 5 years’ experience as an electrical, instrumentation or millwright technician, preferably with boiler servicing and commissioning.
• Unendorsed driver’s licence; SAGA membership advantageous.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical data and use hand and trade tools.

Required skills

• Electrical wiring installation and grounding.
• Inverter drives and PLC programming.
• VSD/VFD configuration and fault diagnosis.
• Instrumentation equipment setup and calibration.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
