Workshop Manager – Department

About the role

The Department/Workshop Manager will lead the workshop operations, ensuring profitability, customer satisfaction and compliance with health, safety and environmental standards. Reporting to the General Manager, the role oversees all aspects of production, quality, and team performance.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and manage workshop operations to meet departmental goals and budget forecasts.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve quality, productivity and efficiency.
• Lead, motivate and develop a competent team, ensuring adherence to procedures and safety standards.
• Manage labour hours, overtime control and job scheduling.
• Oversee commercial activities including job costing, quotations and customer relationship management.
• Assist with recruitment, training, performance evaluation and budget preparation.
• Ensure compliance with SHEQ policies, ISO standards and relevant legislation.

Required profile

• Matric with a Technical or Business‑related Diploma (or equivalent experience).
• At least 5 years of industry experience and 5 years in a similar managerial role.
• Strong managerial, leadership and conflict‑management abilities.
• Proven financial planning, strategic decision‑making and process‑improvement skills.
• Effective communication with employees, contractors and clients.
