Senior Mechanical Designer – Underground Hard Rock Mining

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Designer will lead the mechanical design of underground hard‑rock mining systems and infrastructure, covering the full lifecycle from concept through detailed design to construction support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of underground hard‑rock mining systems including crushers, conveyors, ore passes and fixed plant.
• Develop detailed design drawings, 3‑D models and documentation using AutoCAD and Navisworks.
• Prepare design calculations, equipment selection documents, specifications and data sheets.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with civil, structural, electrical and process disciplines and conduct clash detection.
• Support ventilation‑on‑demand systems, fans and ducting where required.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior designers and ensure compliance with codes and regulations.

Required profile

• 8–12 years of mechanical drafting and design experience, with at least 5 years in hard‑rock underground mining (copper or gold).
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Advance Steel is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of mining regulations, mechanical engineering codes and ventilation‑on‑demand concepts.
• Registration with ECSA or equivalent professional body is advantageous.
