Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Coordinator

About the role

Nestlé is seeking a Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Coordinator to ensure safe operations at its Belville distribution centre in Cape Town. The role focuses on implementing and maintaining SHE management systems, complying with legislation, and fostering a culture of safety.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards across the site.
• Ensure compliance with South African SHE legislation (Occupational Health & Safety Act, COID Act, Environmental Conservation Act, National Environmental Management Act, and relevant by‑laws).
• Lead risk assessments, develop contingency plans, and advise site management on legal obligations.
• Create, review, and update site SHE policies, standards and procedures.
• Drive a Behaviour‑Based Safety (BBS) program and monitor its effectiveness.
• Establish and chair the Site SHE Committee and specialised safety teams (Fire, First Aid, Hazmat, Risk Assessment, Crisis).
• Supervise training and equipment for specialised safety groups.
• Set, track and report annual SHE objectives and targets, aligning with corporate requirements.
• Support technical safety functions (e.g., ammonia, pump room) by ensuring competent staffing and mandatory inspections.

Required profile

• B‑Tech in Safety, Environmental Health Management, Engineering or Logistics.
• 3–5 years of industrial SHE management experience in manufacturing or distribution.
• Strong knowledge of South African SHE legislation and international standards.
• Proven ability to lead risk assessments and safety committees.
