About the role
The Drilling Assistant will support the drill rig operator in an open‑pit mining environment, ensuring drilling activities run smoothly and safely. This full‑time position is based in Bellville, Western Cape, and requires a proactive attitude under pressure.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the Drill Rig Operator with drilling activities and monitor the rig for mechanical faults.
- Ensure drill holes are cleaned, properly plugged, and that at least two buckets of stemming are placed next to each hole.
- Help with sharpening drill bits and other routine maintenance.
- Support blasting activities and follow safety procedures.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Required profile
- Grade 12 certificate.
- 1–3 years experience in an open‑pit mining environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Own transport and accommodation.
- Blast assistant certificate (advantageous).
