Quality Controller

About the role

Our client in the agricultural sector is seeking a Quality Controller to ensure that all raw materials, processing steps, and final products meet strict food safety and quality standards. You will work on‑site in Cape Town, handling fresh fruit and vegetable batches from receipt through to shipment.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect incoming raw materials and vehicles against specifications and food safety requirements.
• Record findings, reject non‑conforming items, and issue non‑conformance reports.
• Conduct shelf‑life, pH, Brix, and organoleptic tests at various production stages.
• Verify that Certificates of Analysis (COA) match product specifications before release.
• Take product samples for microbiological, heavy‑metal, and MRL testing and retain batch samples.
• Perform daily calibration of scales, thermometers, refractometers, and pH meters.
• Maintain quality documentation, complete driver and cleaning checklists, and conduct personal hygiene checks.
• Handle customer queries, complaints, and provide feedback on test results.
• Order chemicals and consumables, manage stock issuance, and update Sage ERP.
• Participate in internal quality and food‑safety audits and report to the Quality Assurance Supervisor.

Required profile

• Food Technologist qualification or equivalent (non‑negotiable).
• 2–3 years experience working with fresh fruits and vegetables.
• Willingness to work shift patterns.
