CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator - Milling

About the role

Our client is a small, established precision engineering company located in the Strand/Helderberg area of the Western Cape. They are seeking an experienced CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator – Milling to take components from engineering drawing through programming, setup and final machining. The role is hands‑on, requires independent work and a strong focus on quality and tolerances.

Key responsibilities

• Program, set up and operate 3‑axis CNC milling machines.
• Interpret engineering and technical drawings accurately.
• Prepare tooling, fixtures, work‑holding and machine setups.
• Determine and adjust feeds, speeds and offsets.
• Perform first‑off checks, troubleshoot issues and make necessary adjustments.
• Use precision measuring equipment to verify finished parts within specified tolerances.
• Maintain a clean, safe workshop and follow health‑and‑safety procedures.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience in CNC milling programming, setting and operation.
• Ability to work independently and deliver high‑quality components.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability.
• Problem‑solving mindset within a small engineering team.

Required skills

• CNC milling programming and operation (3‑axis).
• Fanuc control (preferred).
• Mastercam (preferred).
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Tooling selection, offsets, feeds and speeds calculation.
• Use of precision measuring tools such as vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges and dial indicators.
