About the role
AECOM is looking for a Principal Engineer – Electrical to join its Enterprise Capabilities office in Centurion, South Africa. The role will lead electrical engineering work for mining, industrial and energy projects, supporting both local and global teams in a flexible hybrid environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technical delivery of complex electrical work packages from study through commissioning.
- Provide oversight for HV/LV power systems, substations, distribution networks, mine infrastructure and process plant facilities.
- Develop and review design criteria, calculations, studies, specifications and engineering deliverables.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces with process, mechanical, civil, structural, controls and commissioning teams.
- Establish checking, verification and technical assurance approaches to meet AECOM quality standards.
- Support project planning, estimates, resource forecasts, risk identification and technical decision‑making.
- Mentor engineers, promote knowledge sharing and strengthen electrical capability within Enterprise Capabilities.
- Drive standardisation, digital adoption, innovation and continuous improvement across the electrical discipline.
Required profile
- Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary, geographically dispersed teams.
- Experience mentoring engineers and fostering an inclusive, high‑performing culture.
- Commercially aware, client‑focused with strong project delivery and quality orientation.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and make informed decisions in a dynamic consulting environment.
- Registered Professional Engineer with at least 12 years of experience in mining, resources, industrial or energy sectors.

- Renewable energy integration and power system studies.
- Industrial control systems and communications networks.
- Experience delivering engineering documentation across study, design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases.
