Pharmacist Assistant (PBQ) – Claremont

About the role

Dis-Chem is seeking a Post‑Basic Qualified (PBQ) Pharmacy Assistant for its Claremont store in Cape Town. You will support the pharmacy team by ensuring safe dispensing, accurate stock management and providing clear medication advice to patients.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the sale and dispensing of Schedule 1‑5 medicines, including compounding and repackaging.
• Prepare and label non‑sterile medicines according to standard operating procedures.
• Manage stock control, ordering, and distribution of medicines up to Schedule 6.
• Accurately interpret prescriptions, verify patient details and ensure pharmacist sign‑off.
• Provide patients with correct usage instructions and counsel on self‑medication.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of medical aid procedures and drug interactions.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric with a basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification.
• Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
• Experience using Unisolv pharmacy software.
• Computer literate – proficient with MS Office.
• Strong numerical skills and command of English plus a second language.
• Willingness to work retail hours.
• Advantageous: knowledge of retail/FMCG operations, additional language, familiarity with SAP and E‑Scripting.
