Maintenance Foreman

About the role

Our leading automotive client is seeking an experienced Maintenance Foreman to lead the plant maintenance team at its New Germany facility in KwaZulu‑Natal. The role involves overseeing all mechanical and electrical upkeep, ensuring high machine uptime and compliance with health‑and‑safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor maintenance procedures and planned maintenance schedules.
• Inspect facilities, identify issues and coordinate repairs, installations and upgrades.
• Allocate workload, supervise upkeep staff and manage on‑site contractors and service providers.
• Control plant engineering budgets, monitor equipment inventory and place orders for critical spares.
• Maintain maintenance logs, produce daily activity reports and ensure compliance with TS 16949, ISO 18001 and ISO 14001.
• Lead health, environmental and safety initiatives, enforcing PPE and regulatory requirements.
• Manage projects, define timelines and ensure visual and operational standards are met.

Required profile

• Millwright qualification or NDip in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing/automotive environment.
• Proven experience as a maintenance foreman supervising teams.
• Strong problem‑solving ability for both mechanical and electrical issues.
• Project‑management experience and computer literacy (MS Office, CMMS).

• Drives, servo motors, compressors, generators and hydraulic systems.
• Electrical and mechanical system diagnostics.
• CMMS usage.
