Lead Engineer - Mechanical (Underground Hard Rock Mining)

About the role

Lead the mechanical engineering work packages for underground copper and gold hard‑rock mining projects, covering studies, design, procurement, construction support and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver mechanical design packages in line with Australian Standards, client specifications and mining legislation.
• Perform conveyor system design and analysis using Sidewinder and Belt Analyst, including sizing, power calculations and dynamic analysis.
• Design and integrate crushing, screening, conveying, pumping, dewatering, dust management and ventilation systems for underground and surface operations.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces with civil, structural, electrical, process and geotechnical teams.
• Lead technical reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs and constructability reviews, and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• At least 9 years of mechanical engineering experience, with significant exposure to mining, bulk material handling or heavy industry.
• Strong first‑principles capability in materials handling, bulk‑solids flow, rotating equipment and fluid systems.
• Registered Professional Engineer and fluent in written and spoken English.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities, communicate clearly with clients and vendors, and mentor team members.

Required skills

• Sidewinder or Belt Analyst conveyor‑design software.
• AutoCAD, Navisworks, Plant 3D, Revit (or equivalent platforms).
• Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) software for bulk material flow analysis.
• Microsoft Office Suite and engineering document‑management systems.
• Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards (AS 4024, AS 1418, AS 4041, AS 4100) and mining legislation.
