Instrumentation & PLC Maintenance Technician – Pharma (Pinetown/Durban)

About the role

Our client, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing organisation, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician (Instrumentation and Electrical) to join their technical team. The role is part of the standby team, requiring after‑hours response to breakdowns in a GMP‑regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine checks, preventive maintenance and calibration of critical measuring and control instruments.
• Diagnose and repair faults on PLC and SCADA systems (Allen‑Bradley CompactLogix, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View SE/ME).
• Participate in standby roster, respond to after‑hours call‑outs and support equipment start‑ups.
• Execute planned maintenance, lock‑out/tag‑out, and complete GMP‑compliant documentation in SAP PM.
• Provide first‑line technical support to operators and assist with commissioning, qualification and engineering projects.

Required profile

• N6 or equivalent qualification in electrical/instrumentation engineering with at least three years’ relevant experience, or a BEngTech/B‑Tech with two years’ experience.
• Demonstrated competence in Allen‑Bradley CompactLogix programming (Studio 5000) and Rockwell FactoryTalk View SE/ME.
• Experience in a GMP‑regulated pharmaceutical or similar manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, electrical installation regulations and permit‑to‑work procedures.

What we offer

• Salary between R45 000 and R55 000 per month (CTC) plus an annual bonus.
